Martin Allinson nowt taken out Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 hi, nice spring like day today, thinking about cleaning my car, lots of chrome to clean, has anyone got any ideas what is the best chrome cleaner to use? cheers martin (alfie};) ;)
malcty Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Martin. If it is bad I use Solvol Autosol. Otherwise Autoglym products. You will now have a few different suggestions. Such is the power of CT. Malc.
AlanChatterton Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I use Autoglym polish........same as on the bodywork..........But then again, my chrome is clean!!Autosol will shift any marks. As will toothpaste..............................!
Englishbull Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Mequiars I found is best and is not abrasive
SKOOBY6 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Autosol for me too but then the chromes not great.
G.in_Lux Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Toothpaste???Colgate or Signal? Could be important... ;D
wolf Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 If it is very bad use a piece of cardboard with autosol. Far better results than cloth.
Greeks Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 autosol is too harsh I heard... Brasso is supposed to me much less abrasive.
Burnerboy Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Peek metal polish is very good and not quite as abrasive as Autosol
ferny Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Look for a chrome wheel cleaner. They tend to have a weak concentration of phosphoric acid which eats at the brake-dust. It should work on the chrome on the car. Over time abrasives will work through the chrome on the car.I've not had a problem using the wheel cleaner on chrome before but I take no blame if it harms your car. ;D
Rumpith Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Is there a way to protect chrome once it's clean? One of my rear bumpers (inevitably the one that has been replaced at some time with a repro item, and therefore not such good quality chrome as the original item on the other side) has a few little spots of rust. I polish them out with Autosol, but they always come back...
willcolumbine Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 Yeah you want to get some wax on that - just like the bodywork! I like Poorboys world but I'm sure other stuffs just as good!
