CraigCerberus Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hi,How can I find out if my Herald is currently a positive or negative earth?I am going to fit an alternator to the car as the dynamo died on me. The car has a radio fitted to it (a modern CD player) alreay, but with this on, lights on and wipers on the car just dies instantly.I want to know how to test for positive or negative earthing so that I can make sure that when fitting the alternator that I am making sure it is running negative earth. Thanks, Craig

CraigCerberus Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 To see if they are on back to front you mean?
ferny Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 To see which terminal goes down to earth (the cars body).Dynamo to alternator isn't a direct swap. Have you looked into the other (simple) jobs involved?
CraigCerberus Posted September 16, 2010 Author Posted September 16, 2010 Ok I'll have a look tonight.I bought the full conversion kit from Rimmer's website £100 all in, so I thought I'd give it a go.What are the other (simple) jobs you mentioned?I am new to classic cars, this is my first. I was told they are a good starter car. I only paid £1000 for it, so i knew I'd have to do bits. Thanks, Craig
