blueH Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I believe my 1200 Herald which is Positive Erath should have two earthing straps, I have one on the steering rack for the horn but should'nt I have a chassis to engine earthing strap, I crawled under my car today but nothing seen, so can anyone tell me where it should attach & maybe somebody might be able to post a photo so that i know exactly where it should attach on the car.Norm
JohnD Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Don't know what or if was fitted originally. But if you want to fit your own, fit it engine to bodyshell. After all, the battery is earthed to the body shell, and so are all the other eletrical components that are earthed. A piece of starter cable will do well. Make sure that the terminal makes good contact with a bulkhead panel, bare metal to bare metal. A little copperease will protect and allow conduction.John
Steve Cureton Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I haven't got a photo but it should be a braid attached to a bolt on the bottom of the engine block, on the right looking from the front and just below the timoing cover. The other end goes under the steering rack nut under the cross member. But as John says, it doesn't really matter where it goes from or to as long as it's there somewhere. Unless you're getting problems with turning the car over or your choke cable is glowing red hot then I suspect the braid is already there.
