gt6878e
hiya all.... please help.... when i re fit the carbs to my car where should the choke lever be ???? should it be set near the bottom of the cam or half way up it? just had it timed today but the engine is racing away with the throttle stops wound right off so i can only think that the choke must be still on.the flaps seem to be fine and not worn but still ticking over at 2500 rpm....bit dodgy trying to brake as the car just wants to go.many thanksDarren
Lord Sorbington
If its Strombergs like on a 2000, with the choke actuation on one carb only and a link pipe taking the extra fuel to the other carb, then there should be about 1mm clearance between the top of the fast idle cam and the striker screw on the throttle linkage when the choke is fully in.With the choke fully out, the bottom of the cam should be pushing on the throttle striker screw giving a fast idle. This little screw cam be adjusted to give a sensible fast idle.....
GT6 John
May help, may not:Quote from the GT6 Mk1 Workshop Manual:"Pull the choke control until the lifting edge of the starter bar on the carburettor just contacts the underside of the air valve when resting on the bridge.Turn the starter bar lever on thr front carburettor to obtain a similar condition and whilst both starter bars are thus held, tighten the clamping bolt. The engine should now be started and run until normal runnning temperature is reached before making final adjustments.
