dolph
Hi guys, i recently posted a thread about the engine block and thanks to your help we identified it as a recessed block which required the relevant head gasket which i have in turn purchased. My next question is...when i have popped the engine back together what sort of PSI should i be looking for on each cylinder when i use the compression tester? Many thanks Dave
johhnyboy
Hi My Toledo 1300 has compressions of about 120 per pot since i replaced the blown head gasket so I would think between 120 and 150 (tops with rebuilt engine)
Mad Mart
Yes but all cylinders should be within about 10% of each other ie. you don't want 3 at 120 psi & one at 150.
thebrookster
My spitty has one cylinder at 175psi, and the other three at 145, personally I would expect pressure to be 120 - 200psi surely??? I know modern engines should be around 200, and when rebuild the 1300 to go in the spit I will be running that on very high compression (as high as I can get away with, aiming for 12/13 to 1 if I can get it, forged pistons, steel bottom end etc etc.)
thebrookster
The higher the better really, and yes, all within 10% of each other. (Do not take mine as guidence, it is fooked!!)
Tinweevil
180, 170, 170, 180 on the last test of mine, recessed block. For the best repeatable results you must compression test the engine hot and with all spark plugs removed.
