Pipe to the back of the water pump?

Whilst changing the rubber pipes in my spitfire 1500 the pipe which connects into the back of the water pump has broken, just one of the branches off has snapped off, it all looked pretty rotten so I will replace. But can anyone tell me what its called?

And now I have the water pump off would it be best to replace? or is there an easy way to check its operation off the car?

Thanks

Tony

Those return pipes just rot away (don't ask me how i know this !)
My spare engine that i bought now has got the same problem.

Best thing is to buy a stainless one, doesn't cost much at James Paddocks.
Some sellers only sell the stainless ones  ;)

Yes I was shocked how brittle it was, I'm glad it snapped when it did otherwise I would have fitted the new rubber pipes without changing it.
Just ordered a stainless one along with new fittings. I also ordered a new water pump MGBHIve had one delivered for around £25 so I thought I may as well. Just need to clean up all the housing now.

Just another job I wasn't expecting!!!

Mine had small holes where it was welded, when i sanded it good off i could see a bigger hole !
It wasn't leaking because of all the rust  :-/
Also do check the pipes of the inlet manifold, it's the same thing ..

I am going to have a check for the inlet ones tonight, whilst I have the water pump and housing off is there anything else I should be doing?

The one original to my car went leaky long ago, & I just ran a length of heater hose until a a replacement pipe could be found & installed.  The same piece of hose was on there for about a decade.  I don't think it really must be a steel pipe, but it's nice to have one.
