Nilfisken
Hi,just about to change plugs in my Spitfire 1500. I am not 100% sure but from all I can tell the engine seems to be fairly stock. Only mod I have done is to put a simple ebay electronic ignition in and changed the coil for a normal one after removing the resistor wire. After messing around a lot with the carburettors the car have been running a bit on the rich side for some time so the old plugs is very sooty. It came equipped with very rich needles and after rebuilding the carbs and changing old needles for ADN:s it seem to run much better. Don't remember the old ones code from the top of my head but they very very different front and rear carb... I now want to give it a good run with new plugs to get a good read from the plugs (how many highway miles is needed to get a proper colouration of the plugs)? Should I retain the normal factory setting for the gap or open it up a bit given the new ignition system? Plugs are BP5ES (replacing equivalent Bosch that were in now and seem to have been right for the engine).Cheers
