Radders
Hi, When my car (Mk2 2000 saloon) gets warm, it starts to get difficult to get in gear and the gearchange feels a bit 'notchy'. It's ok in the high gears, but seems to get worse when changing down, especially from 2nd to 1st when you are crawling. (Not kerb crawling I hasten to add! ;D )It had a new slave cylinder last year, so it shouldn't be that. I'll be taking it to the RBRR drivers meeting next week to see it performs on a long journey, but if it make driving too difficult, then I'll need to sort it before the round Britain. Any ideas anyone? Am I going to be pulling the gearbox out the week before the round Britain? :(
Nick Jones
What sort of pipe do you have connecting master and slave together. The plastic ones have been known to get a bit bulgy when hot so some of the displaced fluid from the master cylinder goes into making the hose fatter with less making it to the slave to operate your clutch.Nick
Radders
Just a normal plastic one. I get what your saying, Rimmers do a braided one I think? :)Thanks

Radders
Thanks. Braided one ordered now. What about the possibilites of it being a master cylinder or pressure issues? Any other ideas anyone? I dont still want to have the problem when I start the RBRR. :-/
Nick Jones
I think the hose has a pretty good chance of solving it (obviously I'm biased :P). Master cyl would likely give the same effect all the time, but it's always possible you have a number of small factors adding up to one problem. Which hole is the slave pushrod hole in on the lever thingy? (btw, I'm now talking through my hat as the only thing with a vaguely saloonish clutch arrangement I ever owned was a Sprint - about 20 years ago!)Nick
Radders
well the braided hose is now fitted and I've moved the slave push rod to the middle hole. (It was in the bottom)All we need now is the test drive up to the drivers meeting on Sunday to see if it's made any difference! :-/ If not, the gearbox will be coming out Monday night! :'(
