Rust as an optional extra / coach-build

I saw a car restauration programme here in France a while ago where they worked on a very old car and wanted to maintain as much of the worn look as possible. A couple of panels had to be replaced and to blend them in they sprayed powdered drinking chocolate on them. I think they first put varnish on so it stuck.

There's a whole range of powders used by railway (and other) modellers for "weathering", including the simulation of rust. I've seen some astonishingly good models of seriously rusty wagons that you'd never guess were all plastic!
