Nick Jones
Endfloat? Dizzy?3 places for 'float- The distributor drive gear - should be set as part of the engine build and procedure is detailed in the WSM.- The distributor main shaft. This is set by thin washers/shims between the drive dog and the end of the housing stem and would not normally need to be messed with. It is possible to drive out the pin that holds the dog on the shaft and remove the dog, giving access to these shims which could then be added/removed as required. Not quite sure why you would want to though? Doesn't want to be too tight as the housing will grow more than the shaft when hot.- At the top of the distributor, the points cam sits over a long locating spigot on the end of the mainshaft allowing it to be pivoted by the mechanical advance mechanism. It's held in place by a screw in the end, under the rotor arm and felt pad. I have seen various shims and plastic washers under there in the past (dunno what is supposed to be there) so there is definitely some scope for tweaking if this is where your excess movement is.Interesting article here though not entirely relevent to your question http://www.triumphowners.com/uploaded/34/111457_86lucas_dissy_tuning.pdfI would say that if your distributor has excessive end float of sideways play anywhere you should find another or have it properly rebuilt. They are not precision items at the best of times....Nick
