AlanChatterton
sounds like an air leak on the inlet manifold or carb to manifold joint to me.
nicmk1est
ah,,,i have got coming new manifold to head gasket,,,hoping that`s the problem(finger`s crossed)
nicmk1est
got new manifold gasket today and problem is sort`d,,,what a differance, progressive power, easy to set up and tuning easier 8) goes like stink now,,happy days are back again, with the new copper headgasket changed and cleaning cylinder head and top`s of piston`s have made huge difference 8) 8) 8)
nicmk1est
its back!!!! only rev`s upto 26-2800rpm and then flutters and low power, changed the intake manifold gasket and re-align the needles,,,,any ideas?
nicmk1est
i think ive solved it!,,,front carb mixture screw O-ring(small),,,when engine running petrol seep`s out but very hard to see,cos of evaporation, just change the mixture housing and screw with new O-ring,,car rev`s past 3000 rpm now,,,fingers crossed that was the problemseams it was sucking in air thru the mixture screw causing air build up in the float bowl stopping fuel going thru to needle and holding back the fuel,,,not been on test drive as yet,,,cup-o-tea time

nicmk1est
i cant help thinking that ive blown a ring somewhere between 1 and 3 piston,,,seeing the problem is front carb,,am i in the right area of thinking?

thescrapman
Was that all plugs and and wide open throttle?I don't think it would have run with compressions that low.CheersColin

Pom Down Under
I hate to admit it but one of my "spare" Mk 1 sedans runs compressions from a best cylinder of 60 psi, down to 15 psi and one with nothing registering at all! :DDespite that, when used, it ran reasonably well - stuffed if I know how but it did AND could never have been accused of holding up the traffic. Perhaps I might get around to pulling the head off one day and checking out the condition of the valves ( is the country in recession or just my valves? ). :-/You have to love the way Triumphs continue to run despite the lack of attention they might receive. :B
nicmk1est
im pretty sure now its the rings,,,when i toke the head off to do a headgasket change, top of pistons where cover in black hard crap(i do have pictures) the front 3 cylinder were worse but same across all 6 pots,,when i cleaned the head all valve were seat properly,,,with recession in valve,i thought it was slow loss of power of a period of time not sudden power loss is what i had
Paul64
A useful check is the leak-down test - use a pipe from a compression tester or ram a rubber pipe into the spark plug hole and apply a low air pressure with the valves closed on that cylinder. If you get air coming out of the inlet or exhaust, that's the problem, if you have air coming out of the oil filler cap, the liner / rings are to worn or broken.......Paul
