WIMPUS
Hi all, Got a question for my spit and my neighbours spit .He's getting his spitfire back on the road after some work that needed to be done.He told me that the damper from his front carb is always getting loose, but he does have those chrome covers.. )I've got it also and also the front that always gets loose after a few days (and now covers installed as it was coming loose everyday then). Now i find it strange that we both have the same sort of trouble.Could it be that the threads are worn or something ? I've been looking and found on another forum that it can be just because of oil and that it comes loose from it , so degreased the threads on mine now.But as i was looking on the burlen website i found there is a fibre washer between it also... Never seen it on mine.Should it be there ? (Part no 47)http://sucarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/spares/id/2421/He's now going to test some dampers that are the same as he old ones from my spare carb setup. piman
Hello Wim, yes there is normally a fibre washer. I would try tightening them a bit more also. Early S.U.s had brass hexagonal damper screws so you could use a spanner, although I never did. Earlier still S.U.s had a knurled rim brass screw so there must have been a reason for going to the hexagon?Alec

Dannyb
Wim, The later Spit 1500 had different dash pots. They are fatter with springs. The damper have domed tops and there are no sealing washers. At leass not on mine. Mine never come loose and are quite firm to undo.If yours are a bit loose then try a fibre washer or use a bit of PTFE tape on the thread.
