Stu 1986
Hello chaps, Can anyone help me? I'm in touch with a student nurse who drives a 1200 herald who's carb is broken. She needs a Solex B30 PSE1 and I'm just wondering if anyone has a spare going at a reasonable price. Believe it or not she drives it daily so she's out of action transport wise. ThanksS. nang
Stu,If this is the one you need and no other is available I could get it and send it over.Tony.http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/triumph/auction-695339894.htm
Stu 1986
Thanks Nang, I'll let you know. I've managed to find out that the same carb was fitted to the Vauxhall Viva in the UK and there are a couple on ebay uk, albeit a bit rough looking. A brand new one is £175 but I don't think she will want to pay that much. I'll keep you posted. S.
Paudman
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-HERALD-1200-SOLEX-CARBURETTOR-/191071082205Just appeared on eBay at £15. Might not need very much work other than a good clean to get it running?
Nick Jones
There's a chunk missing from the fuel feed connection boss at the back of the picture - and postage is high (in France)Nick
Mark Hammond
What is wrong with the carburettor? In my experience not a lot goes wrong with these Solex carbs. Usual suspects include a blocked slow running jet.Mark

On the other hand, I've a few B30s that had apparently seen some pretty ham-fisted attempts to adjust them, with pretty much fatal results. :'(
Keith
Agree cleaning and adjusting should cure most ills.Be careful not to lose the ball bearing from under the accelerator jet ( I think everyone does that the first time they take one apart!)You can get overhaul kits for them which gives you new spindle, pump diaphragm, jets etc.K
heraldcoupe
I spoke to the owner over the 'phone last week, the problem is that the pivot for the choke has stripped it's thread in the carb's body. Unfortunately I couldn't help with a ready-to-go carb, all I have here are complete unknowns which would need a stripdown and rebuild.I reckon a reasonable repair could be done with a metal-filled epoxy filler, but it needs a tinkerer to look at it - it's the kind of job professional garages don't want to know about,Cheers,Bill. I've at least one B30 with several of the top cover screw holes stripped out....
andybeau
Could it be helicoiled?
blueH
Just spotted this thread on Herald Solex Carbs, mine is missing it's choke return spring, just wondering if any forum members might have a spare on an old unit they could let me have.CheersNorm
Stu 1986
I fixed this today, I tapped the hole in the carb to a M6 thread, and used an M6 bolt with an adapted sleeve I made for the shoulder. It works, and the car runs and drives. I promised to return and teach her how to do a service, as the car would benefit from new plugs, coil, leads and a dizzy tune.
