Davemate
After getting to work tonight I had a look and feel around my carbs (ooh err miss'es)The front float bowl was almost to hot to hold for more than a few seconds,as was the ram pipe The back Bowl was just very warm. The fuel pipe which runs frome the back to the front was hot at the front carb It would seem that the rad Is doing a wonderful job of cooling but all the heat seems to be blowing straight onto the carbs via the fan This can't be good can it ?I do have a standard heatsheild but it would seem that It is poo poo What have you lot done to cure overheating carbs 1500 in a herald with standard side engine cover things

sparky_spit
Mike (VR), I remember buying one of these in stainless from you/Dale at Stoneleigh a couple of years ago, and fitted it to my Spitfire. It works really well. Didn't you getthem made up in a batch at the time?

Nick Moore
The best heat shields I've seen are the polished stainless-steel two-layer type. There's a gap between, so while the inner sheet gets heated by radiant heat from the exhaust, the outer sheet is very cool. My Herald also has Spitfire 1500 twin carbs. Spitfire1500
I don't currently use a heatshield on my HS2s/1300 Dolly engine.I haven't had any warm running issues but as I have a tubular manifold, I will have to make one up or cut a fully functioning one up.Kind regards,David
Davemate
I just got back from a trip to Clacton today,I sat in traffic for about a mile before comming off the m25 and for the next mile or so(until the engine temp dropped a bit) the car did nothing but jump and cough, then all of a sudden away we went all happy again Vapour lock hopefully a thing of the past,as from the weekend ! Steve P
My Vitesse still misfires and coughs after sitting idling for a while, thats with heat shields and a wrapped manifold. Its ok once you get moving,i think its because the inlet manifold is boiling hot.Steve
