WIMPUS Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Hi all, My friend has trouble with his TR6 again today.Brand new coil didn't want to work good and only a small spark :oSo got mine out the boot and strapped it on the old one.it worked very well, when we came back home 'my' coil was also a bit hot ..As the coil is also original at the same place on a GT6 i wanted to ask it here. So what to do about it ? Thought about a heat shield and put some spacers between the mounting & engine block.. ::)Any thoughts ? :) Quote
Steve P Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 First check its a non ballasted coil,3 ohm-non ballasted ignition.1.5 ohms ballasted.1.5 ohm coil on a non ballasted ignition will cook it.General heat from the block issue..i mounted mine on the bulkhaed next to the battery.Steve Quote

Also friday the car behave strange & it was also very warm that day.At the evening when it was colder the car worked great !Even today after my spare was installed he didn't have problems and running better then before ! So my bet is on the heat from the engine .. Quote

As far as I know the chap has had no more problems with a hot and subsequently failing coil. Quote
