ferny Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Refresh my memory, please. Putting mk2 discs and callipers onto a mk1 (63 built) requires a spacer or new bracket? I used to think it was a straight swap but I'm sure I remember hearing different at least once. Pads are the same though, yes? Quote
thescrapman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 different hub??Waiting in anticipation for a correct answer as I need to do the same.CheersColin Quote
DGF Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 yep you need the mk2 hub..else it fouls the caliper Quote
lloydpiestate Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 seem to remember early pads are diff shape to to later ones ? Quote

DJB_Harvey Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 You need Mk2/Stag pads in a Mk2 caliper ... Plenty on eBay . Quote

TedTaylor Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 When I built AFH as a 'period replica' rally car in 1981/82 I wanted to keep the original Mk1 braking system to keep it within the 'everything 1964/65' as far as I could. This meant original calipers and original size (thin) discs.I reasoned that more meat around the hub mounting points would give more 'heat soak' effect and help reduce the onset of overheated brakes and to this end I bought a pair of brand new Mk2 discs and had the disc part machined to Mk1 specification. They then bolted onto the original hubs as direct Mk1 replacements. I am sure my 'theory' worked to a point because I thrashed the old girl round a number of race circuits (Silverstone, Brands, Donnington) having access in my role as Chairman of the late Association of Historic Motor Sports Clubs and the brakes stood up to my spirited (aka hairy) driving well. Not saying that an upgrade to Mk2 would not have been better but mod worked within the limits that I wanted. Quote

ferny Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 5005 wrote:i got some here ferny, just pay the postage boyoThat'd be splendid. Let me know how much and how you want paying and I'll drop you my address.edit - I'm doing this because my brakes used to grab on the n/s/f and when I investigated found the inside of that disc was heavy grooved. There's no way it'd be reclaimable as they're so deep and smooth - must have been like it for thousands of miles! I've got the mk2 callipers and discs already.I was reading the 2000 register notes folder yesterday and Mr Witor didn't recommend "upgrading" to Stag brakes. Quote
DJB_Harvey Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I've got plenty of Nos early brake discs and personally with a very early car like yours I'd keep it original . Quote
lloydpiestate Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 hi ferny, ill go and dig them out for you ( prob this wk end now ).i wont know the postage untill i post them, around the £15 mark id guess, ill send em rec del.just pay me via paypal once you recieve them.drop me your address boyo.lloyd Quote
thescrapman Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nick_Jones wrote:Stag calipers captured......NickIs anything else fitted with the same calipers as a Stag? The same seal kit fits 1980's Transits and Sherpas apparently, but that is not tp say the caliper is the same one.Cheers Quote
Nick Jones Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Some Rover SD1 also apparently - but again it is unclear whether whether the caliper body/mounts are the same.Nick Quote
Nick Jones Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Good ol' Ebay. £ 22 delivered for a pair of used Stag calipers. And they are actually a pair, castings intact and the bleed nipples move........ Dunno about the pistons yet, but they'll do as exchange core if nothing else.Who's best for discs and repair kits?Nick Quote
Richard B Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I have'nt checked the prices but LD Parts sells good quailty stuff. http://www.ldparts.co.ukand he's a Stag enthusiast. Quote
