Ian Perry Posted August 18 Posted August 18 For Sale, one SPitfire 1500, non O/D on a 1977 plate. I bought this some years ago as a total basket case - and put it back together and on the road with the intention of having it just as a 'fun' car. With the inevitable outcome that I just don't have the time or the inclination TBH to just "go for a spin", so the car simply isn't getting used. I So I'd rather it went to someone who would have some fun with it, while the GF and I look for a camper instead (rolls eyes). Asking £3750 or a sensible offer. Location in Baydon, near Lambourn in west Berkshire. So. It's a solid car but very non-original. Lots of welding done - floors, sills, master cylinder shelf, windscreen pillars, bonnet hinge boxes plus a few other smaller bits. The previous owner put GRP rear wings and a bootlid on it, I obtained a GRP front end as the original steel was terminally rotten and a decent steel one was unaffordable. The paint on it is done by me and by no means blemish-free, but looks good from a distance, and with a bit of elbow grease would look nice. It's a Peugeot blue (the previous girlfiend chose it!), and I have a couple of touch-up cans to go with the car. Engine is solid and runs well - the vendor told me it has an unleaded head on it but I haven't taken it apart to check (but everything else he told me turned out to be true). Good oil pressure at an indicated 70PSI on starting, drops to about 30psi when warm and idling. Stainless extractor exhaust manifold and twin pipe system, sounds magnificent! The radiator has lost a few fins, but is watertight and it hasn't had any cooling issues - but there's a very good radiator to go with it, that I haven't got round to fitting. Drivetrain, suspension and brakes all good with many new parts - in fact the whole brake system is new from the master cylinder back. Ditto clutch hydraulics. The seats are period buckets (the original seats were missing when I got it) but the buckets and harnesses look OK to me. Rollover bar and a "targa" top complete the look, the steel roof can be fitted to make it a complete "hardtop" - and there is a GRP hardtop up in the loft to go with it. Currently sitting on Dolomite steels with fair tyres, but a set of Spitfire wheels will go with it. Plus any other Spitfire bits I have including loads of gaskets and plenty of OHV engine parts. Happy to take any questions, provide more photos and arrange viewing if interested. Thanks for reading this far! Quote
