Dratno Posted Tuesday at 18:31 Share Posted Tuesday at 18:31 Hi, I tried to move my Herald today and the clutch pedal was ‘solid’, not the first time this has happened as it is not used much. Having pressed harder, it went to the floor with no resistance at all now. When running the engine and attempting to engage gear, nothing happens - no grinding of gears etc. Does this mean that the clutch has perhaps seized in the open position? The master reservoir remains full, no sign of leaks from pipework or seals although I cannot access the slave to check that. Wondering if anyone has had the same problem, any responses would be appreciated!
glang Posted Tuesday at 18:57 Share Posted Tuesday at 18:57 You didnt leave it with the pedal wedged down did you? Some people do this to stop the clutch sticking when left for long periods...
glang Posted Wednesday at 05:51 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:51 No, thinking about it whats happened is that being unused I think corrosion has built up in the slave cylinder then when operated the piston has come out and got stuck leaving the clutch in the disengaged position. Youve pushed on the pedal and of course nothing could move so it felt solid but on pushing harder the master cylinders small internal seal has started to leak allowing the fluid to return to the reservoir and the pedal to the floor. You need to overhaul both cylinders although the damage to the slave might mean its scrap....
