Where does the front flexi brake hose go to, it won't reach the caliper so there must be a copper pipe from the caliper to somewhere that attaches to the flexi but I can't find anywhere to attach another pipe to if that makes sense?
All I have is the pipes up to a bracket, then the flexi, then nothing, anyone got a picture please.

GT6? There should be a copper pipe out of the caliper that loops round and meets the flexi-hose about where the top mounting bolt is - I've got a picture somewhere, hang on a tick....

There are (although not very clear in this picture due to their colour) small L shaped brackets that attach to the top caliper mounting bolt and support the brake line at the union between flexi and copper pipe - you'll want to get (or make) these to ensure that the copper pipe isn't stressed.

My Mk1 just has the flexi lines going straight to the caliper.

Was like this when I bought it. Worked fine. Has the L bracket for the copper pipe on the opposite side of the upper wishbone.

I think it must have been amended by a P.O at some time.

Right from the original production of the GT's the front caliper had a loop of rigid pipe connecting to the flexible hose then back to rigid pipe (two 'L' brackets would have been fitted per assembly.

... Not being a smarty pants, but i am at this very moment reading John Thomasons guide to originality book and have just got to the GT6 MKI section.

Front brake assembly came from the Vitesse 2.0 MKI which was a beefier set up than the simpler Spitfire arrangement which was derived from the smaller engined Heralds.

I think they were fitted from new - probably removed by a PO at some point. In the attached image you can see the solid pipes (parts 18 & 19).

The Spit set-up has the flexi hoses going directly into the caliper - no idea why they went for one design over the other in different applications - unless the larger caliper fitted to the GT6 takes the hose too close to the wheel for a flexi?

I'm sure someone knows - not me though!

I think I'm a couple of brackets missing then for the solid pipe on the brake cylinders, I've had two good searches but can't find them, I'll have to leave the setting up of the brakes until later in the rebuild then in case they turn up, my next problem is the wiring routes.

That's an interesting insight. My Mk1 has been changed around a few times by PO's because it has an overdrive and four stud diff and spring (not the usual 6 stud). I did some research and this is apparently a spitfire diff, but they have exactly the same ratio as a GT6 overdrive diff so I'm not terribly bothered. It's the same, minus two studs. Has been well fitted and OD set up properly.

Mind you, my Mk1 is a very early one so I keep finding quirks that are actually genuine and not wrong.
