GT6 M Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I got two brand spanking new trunnions and verticle links at the week end,.started to put them on, but am some what dismayed, by the ..slack fit.. :-/ :-/I would have thought that they would have been a lot lot tighter than this,.are they supposed to be ..slackish.. or notMarcus
Paudman Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 They are supposed to rotate (obviously) in both directions so should not be screwed up tight HOWEVER there should be no sideways / vertical movement ie they should not be moveable from side to side, merely round and round. If you can rattle the trunnion on the vertical link then something is not right.
Llessur Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I had a conversation with Chic Doig recently about this - apparently over the years the original tooling used to cut the thread in the OE Stanpart trunnions has worn significantly meaning that the threads are of a poor quality and possibly could result in the slackness you describe.Apparently this problem has now been resolved and all recently made Stanpart trunnions should be as good as new.Unless of course yours aren't OE parts - which might explain the slackness?
GT6 M Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 Llessur, nope they not standpart, cant see the stamp any way,.but im no too happy aboot it,.they are a lot tighter than the originals, , they were worn, But one would think these are worn too,.been loooking int workshop manual, and it no gives any inside/out side OD measurements to go offgoing to get ont blower and see whats whatI mean , they no cheap, or is some ones idea of a good ..
