richard w
I think I've got one already, must remember to check when I get home!
Jos
Also received mine and see that they now put extra grid numbers on the map which they didn't have when I last navigated about 45 years ago. Also can anyone give me the map reference for Gilks Garage Cafe so that I can get some map reading practice on the way to the start. Thanks

thescrapman
HTTPS://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/node/23 a few guides here. If you are near Essex, might be able to sign you up for the navigators training night.
Jos
Thank you Batch for the map reference, and to thescrapman for the guides - very useful but I'm hoping for that just map references will be used. Thanks also for the offer for the training nights but I live in Gloucestershire.
thescrapman
The scatter will be just map references. If you do fancy doing more, look up your local Motor Club. There is a big push to get more people involved by the MSA MsUK, which is why lots of clubs are running training sessions at the moment. And if you are any good in the LH seat, you will forever be in demand for 12-cars. 🙂
Jonny-Jimbo Posted yesterday at 09:30 Share Posted yesterday at 09:30 (edited) For those of you wishing to mark start and finish points they are; Start - Gilks Garage Cafe, Kineton. 3412 5086 (3419 is 3 doors down 😉) Finish - The Falcon, Warmington. 4120 4660 (On the B4100 quite a way out of Warmington itself!). We've got some fun questions lined up this time, and hopefully some fun roads too. We've gone for a K.I.S.S. event this time, no extras, no hidden tasks or extra brain teasers, just a good fun Scatter through the lanes of Warwickshire and North Oxfordshire! Look out for FInal Instructions being sent out at the weekend / early next week. For those new to the game, if you don't have a Roamer (a glorified clear plastic ruler) you will find that a normal clear plastic ruler will do just fine! Jonny-Jimbo
I wonder if it may be beneficial to explain why I think the grid reference is not as previously stated; this is to assist in demonstrating why careful plotting is important. (We all make mistakes, and theres an element of guesswork on this scale of map, so there will be some differences) But, this photo shows where I deem the cafe to be, the pencil dot on the block. The reason for this position (around 3412 - 3414) is just to the east of where the buildings on the opposite side of the road finish. 3419 is at the end of the row of buildings the cafe is in, which as the screenshot from Maps shows, is a few doors down. For navigating to the cafe it makes no difference - however, if you're out looking for clues, and you misplot something, you could be on the wrong side of the road, or some other feature such as a river etc. Hopefully this may assist those of you new to this to understand why careful plotting is required! JohnD
What's the date of your ordnance Survey map? It'll be at the foot of the right hand column, under all the map symbols. The OS MasterMap is updated every six weeks (!), but your map looks to me as if it's a few ( or more!) years old. And, your Google Earth (?) image is at much larger scale. Jonny-Jimbo
I don't understand your point John? Yes, they are scaled differently, but that does not change where the start point is nor the grid reference? The grid reference given previously in the thread would be three properties to the east of where the cafe is, at the end ot that small block just above my rule. I used a zoomed in image to help demonstrate the position of the building. Edited 17 hours ago by Jonny-Jimbo
