alan pettit Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Just a bit of a dopey question . I got some new stanpart trunnions from canleys. i know they are handed and have L and R stamped on them but Land R from the front of the car or as sitting in it? i would guess L is near side? can someone please confirm ? thanks
bodders1 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 L is the left side of the car when you're sitting in it looking through the windscreen.Remember that the upright is also left or right threaded and it is impossible to fit the wrong trunnion to the upright. I read somewhere that Colin Chapman used to reverse the trunnions and uprights when fitting them to Lotus cars so the right-hand set went on the left and vice-verse. This was theoretically to work better with the effective camber changes when turning the steering (one trunnion screws up slightly, the other screws down) although I doubt if the difference is noticeable in reality.
