Raider Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Working on my early mk2 2000 has reminded me of about 25 to 30 years ago when I used to work on my Cortinas and Escorts etc.Ford used to fit pretty much one wiring loom if I remember correctly for many levels of car spec so, if you upgraded the interior for example you could simply connect up the wire to the clock, cigarette lighter etc. Now, having got a 2000 would the same thing apply? In particular, fitting the dash panels with the rev counter and clock in a different location - would the connections already be there luring and ready in the current loom?
dazzer Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Hi RaiderAuto sparks only list one main harness for the MK2s although there appears to be a number of wiring diagrams in the manuals. If the MK1s are anything to go by (only one loom listed as well) the early loom on mine didn't include any provision for the later clock, so perhaps they didn't use the same loom for all the big saloon models.I added the extras to my original loom when it was out of the car... came out easy... going back in was a struggle.CheersDarren
Richard B Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 The one behind the dash plugs into the main loom. I would expect that to be unique to each setup. My MkII 2000/2.5PI parts catalogue lists 2 versions of the "Main Harness" one LHD & one RHD.ps bear in mind they changed the loom electrical connectors somewhere around 1974 from rubber to plastic. They are not interchangable (but you can sort it with a soldering iron ;) ).
Raider Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 I know therre are different wiring diagrams between models but these could just leave off any wiring that wasn't needed for the model while, in reality, the wires are actually there (if you see what I mean).I would go and look under the dashboard etc to see if there are any obvious connectors surplus but the car is 17 miles away ;D

Pre face lift PI dash clocks plug straight in to PFL 2000 loom. Gets more complicated if you are mixing PFL and facelift parts as Richard says - but not impossible if that's what you want to do.
