Ok I need some help from people.

I'm in the process of trying to sort out my wiring loom I have a thick plain white wire recon its either 1.5 or 2mm sq that looks to have suffered badly from heat and also a black wire in a similar state both are plain in colour does anyone know off the top of their head what these 2 wires serve?? and why they should suffer more than any other around them??

A few pictures to show what im contending with

Ewwwugh

The white wire will be ignition switched feed, probably from the ignition switch to various devices.

The black wire is normally an earth wire.

At a guess the car suffered a short circuit and that part was not fused so burnt out. You can repair that with correct colours, heat shrink and a soldering iron (if you know what you are doing).

yeah I'm a lift engineer by trade so this loom is a baby compared to what I normally deal with there are loads of points on the loom like this I will replace anything that is damaged or that looks like its been exposed. Whilst it looks like a complete birds nest its quite a rewarding task sorting it all out. or maybe I just need to get out more often!

Richard is probably 100%, but Herald and Vitesse used slightly different versions of the Lucas standard, or rather lthe lack of fuses on the Herald resulted in  different wiring colours.  Which car?
