Radders Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 my wiring loom burnt out tonight. How hard are they to change? Do they come in different sections????Any advice of fitting a replacement??I hate wiring!!!!! :(
GreenV8Machine Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I love wiring. They arent that hard to replace with a bit of leading migwire in parts, I think they come in 2 major sections, front and back and smaller sections eg to the roof and lights.
Richard B Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Presumably the engine bay/dash bit is the bit you torched? Might find it's best to take the dash out first. :-/Make sure you get the right model, best bet is from a car shell of the same year, manual/auto/carb/PI/saloon/estate should all be adaptable (not identical) between types.

This was the car I was using on the HCR!
Richard B Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 We rebuilt James's GT6 loom after a similar experience. Took about 10 days on the dining room table. Laid the loom out on a piece of 6'x4' hardboard. Then we cut, spliced, replaced, rewrapped all the damaged sections. Also meant we could upgrade various parts of the loom for alternator, relays on headlights, electric fan and made it all integral.Time consuming but worth the effort. Used a spare loom for some of the cable and bought various cables and connectorss from here.http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.phpor herehttp://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/
James Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 10 days - blimey!I usually "cost" my time and I think I would have gone out and bought a new loom :)
Craig Bennett Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Might be good idea to pm 'Dave2000' or wait for him to be on forum. He had problem with wiring loom and sourced a new section and did the job himself. Don't think it took too long as I recall. Car is still going so he can't have done too bad a job!! Not sure of the full details but sure he will help you with contacts etc. Cheers
TedTaylor Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 A number of us have also posted detailed info on the Register Forum in case anyone is interested. Ted
