Dannyb Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 It was intermittant clicking and sometimes turning the starter. Took it apart and found the contacts were rusted inside. I thought the terminals were or used to be made of copper but these are steel with a copper covering thats worn away. The only copper parts were the horse shoe contacts. I cleaned it up put it back together and it works ok, I have fitted a new one I had spare now I will keep this one as a spare. I checked the new one with a megnet and tterminals.hat also has steel Quote
WIMPUS Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 So another not so good quality part it seems 🤔On mine i've got a big solenoid a german one (i think), never failed on me in nearly 3 years of driving it daily. But do got a spare new solenoid (as yours) in my pile of parts. Quote
nang Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Yes, but which Lucas ? the English or the Chinese one. (eek)Tony. Quote
Dannyb Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 The one I have put on now is the old Lucas with the red rubber button, well not that old as I had a non working one which I rebuilt with new parts some time ago. They seem to go for a fair bit when they come up on ebay thesedays. Quote
RedRooster Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Quoted from nang Yes, but which Lucas ? the English or the Chinese one. (eek)Tony. Who really knows, they are from a Lucus distributor in the UK in a Lucas box though. Quote

RedRooster Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 [quote=1684 They seem to go for a fair bit when they come up on ebay thesedays.[/quote]Have them fitted to the cars (keep a spare modern one in the boot, just in case) last Red button i got for 99p including delivery, was part of a large job lot of mini bits, so i told the seller just send me the solenoid & you can resell the rest of it. Worth keeping an eye on the job lot auctions as a lot of the 60's 70's parts were generic.RR Quote
