daneggies1 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 hi everyone,I have the unenviable task of replacing my overdrive solenoid on a d type (mk3 gt6) however after discovering it to be quite leaky I noticed where the overdrive actuator ?rod? is it protrudes from the housing yet there is a thread to in the hole, am I missing a screw in plug ?any help appreciated hereDan Quote
RobPearce Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 It's a while since I've owned a car with a D-type (all mine have J-type conversions) but from memory, that looks wrong.Sorry, not much help Quote
Dogsbody47uk Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 It doesn't look like the arrangement on my Vitesse's D type. But also not much help! Quote
Richard B Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Should be a plug screwed in there to cover the plunger. Quote
Pete Lewis Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 yes theres a screwed cover plug to act as a stop in the off postionthere should be no oil round this area or the solenoid.if you need to remove the solenoid you may need too lift the rear of the box to get at the bottom screw, if refitting get some socket cap screws , makes next time much easier. as access with a long allen key or extention will align and allow for unscrewing , which is nearly impossible with a screwdriver once the cap is in place adjust the lever position with the solenoid 'ON' so the hole in the lever aligns a hole in the case just behind the lever a 3/16 drill is a good alignment toolyou can see the castle nut and cap on here , but not available, try OD spares rugby or overdrive repairs sheffieldhttp://www.canleyclassics.com/triumph-gt6-mkiii-overdrive-kitPete Quote
daneggies1 Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 Thanks for the help/advice everyoneNew solenoid has been installed, i have also made an extended screw arrangement to make removing the solenoid in the future easier, just waiting someone getting back to me with regards to the adjuster plug now so just that left to do and hopefully it'll be good to go again!
