overdrive solenoid problems

My overdrive worked fine until last week . now when i engage it although it engages the solenoid goes ting ting ting non stop and then i get a burning smell.. obviously i havent driven it like that but with the inspection plate removed i can see when i turn it on the plunger is not engaging properly and it moves in and out constantly going ting ting ting ! if i pull the level back by hand the noise stops. is it the solenoid that is bust? if so how on earth do i remove the bottom screw without taking the gearbox out?????

Bottom screw, very very award indeed ole boy,
need a bent srew driver, or a ..BIT of a srewdriver BIT, in a ring spanner,
or/and  some very long nosed bent pliers,

can undo the g box mount and jack up a little, but its still a pain, but can be done
1/4 turn a time !!!!

Solonoid contacts may well be dirty,no making a contact,
or the adjusting nut has worked loose,

or in my caes, the soldered joint had come off / gone dry, giving same symptoms

got a Manual !!!! if so,  read and  digest, then set about
