dazzer Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Ok I made a detailed written diagram of the wire colours to the fuse box and relays before fitting a new wiring loom.Unfortunately it now makes as much sense to me, as the enigma code!Does anyone have an illustration or description of where all the wires go please... an idiots guide would perhaps suit me.Many thanksDazzer
Dave2000 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Hmmm, depends on whether it's a Mk.I or MK.II as to the validity of this reply - and as I just remembered your signature says Mk.I this may not be relevant - but when I rewired the front-end of my car earlier this year following a small fire, I labelled each wire in turn all the way round the car, then removed the loom, transferred all the labels across and then fitted the new one. However, and this is the point of this post, when I got to the fuse box I put the wires back onto it as per my own instructions but then checked the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual just to double-check I hadn't got anything massively wrong. What I found was that the cables on either side of the fuse box were the same - ie plain red goes to plain red, green and white goes to green and white etc etcI would imagine that it would be the same in your case. I also can't see that if you got the wires going to 'wrong' fuse, such as what was originally going to number 3 ends up going to number 2 when you re-do it, would make much difference; as stated, as long as the colours match up there should be no difference in the operation of the various circuits once it's all back together.Hope this is of some help, although bear in mind that this all off the top of my head!Don't be afraid to shout if you need any further help. BTW, whereabouts are you in the world?
dazzer Posted December 13, 2009 Author Posted December 13, 2009 Hi DaveThank you for the info... yes 2000 MK1, although I like the idea that same colour to same colour works OK. But if you get it wrong it's probably OK anyway.I'm up in North Yorkshire, just the relays to rewire, and to fit relays to the new halogen headlights now. Many thanks for your help.Darren
