WIMPUS Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Hi! My one friend with his VW Beetle :X is a bit jealous of my gauge lights in my spit :POn his original radio the light is green and now he asked my if i could buy some led bulb's for his speedo.. He's speedo has now white light, but he wants green light also .. Now looked at BA7s /281 bulb's for his speedo and it seems that i can't find any green led bulb's for his car :-/Well i found some, but looked this evening and they don't sell them anymore :-/Does someone know where i could find some ? :) Quote
partsaver Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Go to a craft shop or old style camera shop and buy a piece of filter card, the type that was used on stage lighting and put if behind the speedo glass, it won't fade as quick as a coloured bulb. Quote
rotoflex Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 That's a good idea. Here they're called "gels", & you might get a tiny scrap for free.If you've got a theatrical supply shop around, they'd have them there. Quote
uksnatcher Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Here ya go Wim.....nice and bright ones plus worldwide postage too...1xhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-GREEN-BA7S-Bayonet-Ultra-Bright-12v-Dashboard-LED-/261037295773Or 10xhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-GREEN-BA7S-Bayonet-Ultra-Bright-12v-Dashboard-LEDS-/220772373634 Quote
Hogie Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Do these actually work?I have tried some white ones with the screw in base on my TR4A and they were useless.Roger Quote
uksnatcher Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Yes Roger, I agree and understand your concern. You need green LED's not white for dash work, white LED's don't look right as the white light is filtered to green within the housing of the dial loosing its brightness. All green light doesn't loose any brightness as there is hardly any filtering.I got some green LED screw type dash bulbs and they were no brighter if not dimmer but they ended up 'greener' than the standard glass type, so newer looking fresh looking dials in the dark but the seller describes these as 'Ultra bright' green so should be good.' The question could be asked to the supplier before purchase how bright they are compared to the standard glass bulbs? Quote
WIMPUS Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Thanks Gaz ! And Roger, i did my spitfire with green led's .. a big change ! But you need to look at what sort of led's you buy also :-/Will search and post on here what i used in mine ;) Quote
Howard Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I fitted green LEDs to the 7 and they dramatically improved the illumination. Not cheap and took a long time to arrive but worthwhile. Quote
WIMPUS Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 Gaz, I've mailed for those led's from ace parts, because on there ebay listing they said they don't ship to Belgium.. So asked about it, and they say that they are not shipping parts outside the UK :-/So they don't want do sell .. all fine with me . :-/ Quote

GT6 M Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 The OE dials on a GT, or Spit which wur green, was done by having a green plastic bit inside the gauge its sell.Any bod,ee got a pic of the gauges with thee,s new fangled lamps in,!!M Quote
Toledo Man Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 The quality of Aceparts LEDs are mixed. The 42mm festoons are rubbish (except for the one in my Dolly) but the smaller festoons are fine. The sidelight bulbs and the dash bulbs that I bought from them for the Astra are fine. Another supplier that I've used is CrazyLEDs but you might be struggling to get LED bulbs from them to fit "our" cars. I'm thinking about replacing all the 42mm festoons in both cars with ones from CrazyLEDs. Quote
WIMPUS Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 Marcus, This are mine with leds in .. but i need a better picture ! :B Quote
