Adrian Girling Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Some while ago I edited the Wikipedia details for the Triumph Roadster to insert the words "most of" before the words "the body was made of almuminium" and a bit later wrote "only the front wings were made of steel". The Wikipedia tags this with "citation needed" I'm pretty sure I'm right, the front wings of my Roadster which I owned 50 years ago, registration number TMX 137 were certainly steel, but I can't find a link to confirm this. I emailed the Triumph Roadster Clib but so far no reply. I'm just wondering if anyone here can confirm, or tell me I'm wrong, and is there a link anywhere that I could cite? JohnD Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Triumph Roadster Guide, History and Timeline from ClassicCars.co.uk Quote , "With early post war steel shortages the body was built from aluminium using rubber press tools that had been used making parts for the largely wooden bodied Mosquito bomber that had been built by Standard during the war and the chassis was hand welded up from steel tube." Several other websites that feature the Roadster use exactly the same wording! John Quote
Adrian Girling Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Thanks John. Sadly, the way Wikipedia and many other web sites work is that they simply replicate what they read elsewhere. Duplicated errors don't make them accurate! I've seen other examples where Wikipedia is just wrong and I suppose it doesn't really matter, but this one should be fairly easy to check and put right I'm hoping someone who owns one can help....
