TR6 - overdrive or not?

I hope someone with sharper eyes than myself can see if this car has an overdrive fitted or not (73 TR6).

I would say not but not 100% positive.

I think it would be a J-type in a '73, so a bit smaller.

I am tending to agree with Nick, that it isn't.

I have to disagree with everyone else,it looks like there is a j type od unit fitted.

if you look at the point where the exhaust pipes kink to the left and draw an imaginary line across,just above that line is two white dots,one of them is the gb drain plug(the other I don't know).so carrying on up the picture you can just make out the gb adaptor flange to o/d unit at the point where the pipes again go straight up and then above that is the casting accommodating the brake ring.

Not quite convinced, even after blowing up and lightening the original image.

The pic below, liberated from the web and showing (presumably) a different car with J-type is much clearer.

Bottom line - I think you need a better better image or other info to be sure.

I would suggest the pipes running under the gearbox i.e. not close to the chassis have been put on back to front.

And I would further suggest that is only possible when an overdrive is not fitted.

Interesting to note that both cars have the normal Gearbox Oil Leak!!

That's not an oil leak-------it's the British anti rust system working properly. (whistle)(whistle)
