WIMPUS Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Hi all, I'm in need of a recon J-type overdrive. On my trip to the UK a good month ago i had a visit to Mike Papworth and told him my problems. And he showed me what could be wrong. It's slipping in 3rd when the car is warmed up, sometimes in 4th to.Inside when you remove the sump it's all coated in black, so that is from the cone clutch 🤔 .So do want a recon unit to just swap over and because it's my daily car & as some of you will know i do a lot of miles with it 🙂Yesterday i mailed around to see for the prices.Rimmerbros is actually the cheapest for the OD itself. But Mike Papworth gave me a price of £425 inch bench tested , incl exchange + a new /recon solenoid. It does cost a £100 ish more then rimmer, but does come with a good solenoid to.I've contacted OD Spares, Rimmer, Canley classics, Mike Papworth ... are there any others that do it to ? 🙂 Wim Quote

thescrapman Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I would look for a saloon gearbox and pinch the OD off the back.Or in this case a Sprint box.Ebay381379300772Perhaps there is a local member coming over, or could post it over for you. Quote

WIMPUS Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 I've wrote every price down i've found .. Seems Canley Classics are the cheapest by over a 100£ at least .The price for a fully recon J-type OD itself is 324£ , shipping is around 30£ . The price of OD spares and Overdrive repair services max of 25£ more on the unit itself. Quote
