I seem to be on a roll with the car now tyres one week polybushes the next and now I've picked up a replacement engine with an overdrive gearbox.

Engine is supposedly good with good oil pressure so hopefully its better than mine,if not whilst mines out I'll take the sump off and have a butchers!

I need a prop shaft and master cylinder but what else do I need?

Any ideas or advice with doing the gearbox swap?

Cheers Alex

Pedals?  :D

Hydraulic pipe, pedal box, overdrive gearstick (& switch), if A'type a relay, gearbox mount, console trim, gearstick gaiter, speedo cable, if A'type an angle drive...... :-/

You will also need to 'Heath Robinson' an exhaust mount!

I've got pedals the pipe actually bar the gaiter and the switch I've got all the above as they came on the engine and box.
Do I need different bolts for attaching to the car?

What type of OD is it?

The A'Type X-member bolts directly to the floor; the Auto uses one size of spacers and the J'type uses another size of spacer to drop the box relative to the shell.

Yes its a J I thought it was but didnt want to look a prat  ;D

Just fired the engine up in the garage broom broom ;D 8)
Started straight up no problem then sat idling,no radiator so it was'nt for long but sounds sweet.

Going for the change eh Alex?  ;D

That propshaft will be the shiniest you've ever seen.

Since I'm the only person who prefers autos to manuals, there's a very limited market for used automatic parts.  Let me know if you have any good bits you want to get rid of!!  :)

MGC master cylinder and a TR6 slave cyl is what I have got on mine... needs a bit of adjustment to the clevis pin position on the pushrod... but apart from that works ok!

(may need other random bits that are different too)

Use a Landrover series 3 clutch slave cylinder its made in alloy with a 7/8 bore size and it bolts staight on...vastly superior to the lockheed one...cheaper/lighter/longerlife...trust me ive been using them for years

Sorry I'm confused its a master cylinder I need or is this a typing error as James then mentions the integral resevoir on a MGC?

It's simply a typical Girling type - like on a small chassis car - with a 7/8 bore.

I looked on eBay and all the Land Rover ones had screw on resevoirs... but Google shows that they do have integral ones also...

Just like this:

Dont suppose you found a part number James? ;D

Is the rod correct on the end ? Obviously as I've never seen one I've not got a clue?....oh and are they cheap ;D

Thanks Alex

I just found it here:

http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/parts-veh-series-sec-clgb.html

The end looks fine - as it's adjustable...

Looks like you'd just use one of these:

http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=562_582_587&products_id=4066

It's adjustable so you can get the length correct (the same as the standard one)

Whooa now.

The 2000 MkII Master cylinder is not the same as a small car. The cylinder has to have a remote resevoir to clear the size of the brake servo.

Alex if you want a cylinder I have one here free, needs an OH kit though. That is why they are £120+ each! Only fitted to big cars and Stags!
