Llessur Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Having managed to source a good used MK3 GT6 engine and overdrive gearbox am trying to plug a few gaps in my knowledge before embarking on my "summer" project (if summer ever comes) - a Spit6 conversion. My 1500 does not currently have overdrive so it's all a bit of a grey area to me. Can anybody shed a little more light on the wiring side of things required for fitting the overdrive gearbox. I've heard stories of a seperate overdrive loom but have not had any luck in finding this in any parts catalogues - although I admit I haven't had too much time to look!If someone can let me know of the any wiring that's required and how this can be connected to the existing 1500 loom I would be very grateful.Cheers allPS - anyone know of any GT6 calipers going for a reasonable price? The last of the major items I need to start...
npanne Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Just checked that spare 16PB that I've got - it's passenger side, and under the grime it doesn't look too bad.
Llessur Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Lovely stuff - I have a 1 in 6 chance of it being an exact matching pair and 1 in 2 chance of it being workable with a bit of bodging. I like those odds...
Deleted User Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I will try and upload the wiring diagram,Rob
Llessur Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Cheers Rob, so from what I understand I can take a positive feed (from the reverse light switch I guess?) through to the inhibitor switch and then through the gearstick switch and then the solenoid, which I presume has a seperate earth wire (or does this just earth through the gearbox body?).What's the worst that can happen?A huge fire I suppose...don't answer that one....

Might be worth picking a system that currently has power....
Clive Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Russel, have a contact who has GT6 front suspension up for grabs, but will need reconning as unused for some time. Lives V close to the Green Man. Drop me a PM.Clive
rotoflex Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 A fire is probably the worst that could happen, but 2nd worst would be that the reverse inhibitor doesn't work, thereby allowing the overdrive to be activated when the car is in reverse. It can be chomp chomp overdrive when that happens.
Burnerboy Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Deffo get the inhibitor working (mine isn't at the moment!) 'cos the possibility of selecting reverse while the O/D is engaged are ever present. during the last Night Run in Holland I almost got the gear lever over and into reverse and then double checked the switch....SH*T!! still engaged!Must do it this weekend, must do it this weekend, must do..........
Llessur Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Cheers for the update - at risk of sounding stupid is there an easy way to check it is working before fitting the box?

I may have a spare D type overdrive loom with relay but will need to check.
Llessur Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Ahh, I think it is the D-type so will need a relay. I don't actually pick the box up until Sat so can't say for sure but if you do have a spare loom then let me know as it may be very useful indeed!Cheers
