GazaGt6 Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 hi guys, bit of a problem with the overdrive. i have turned on ignition, taken it out of either 3rd or 4th and left the column switch in the off position. One lead of multi meter to Neg battery terminal, the other to the white wire to W1 which has 12v standing on it. it then Moveved the meter lead from W1 to W2 (yellow and green), this also read 12v, proving the continuaty of the relay coil. any ideas? :-/
Paudman Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Is the problem that it isn't coming on, or is staying on?
cook1e Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Sounds like a dodgy overdrive relay, if the contacts are sticking in the on position it will supply current to the solenoid even if the column switch is off or the inhibitor switch is not in 3rd/4th.
cook1e Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 To explain my comments above see the diagram below. When the overdrive switch (61) is on it provides a connection to earth if the inhibitor switch (60) is closed (in 3rd/4th gear). This closes the contacts on the overdrive relay (59) between the power feed (b) and the overdrive solenoid (62). If the contacts inside the relay stick on then there will be a constant power feed to the solenoid.
GazaGt6 Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Problem fixed! it ended up being loose wiring running to inhibitor switch.
