Tom2000 Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Stumbled across an add on Freeads, went to go see it locally and picked up a rebuilt engine and overdrive gearbox with new clutch for £200, not that I need a new engine but other than propshaft how hard is it to fit the overdrive?
Richard B Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Propshaft, G/B mounting plate, G/B rubber mount, O/D switch (incl gearstick), bit of electrical wiring and away you go. If the box is ok and you have everything you should get it sorted in a weekend. is it a single rail gearbox or a 3 rail? if a 3 rail you need to fiddle with clutch parts to put the two together.
Tom2000 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 It's a single rail and I have everything except propshaft, thanks :)
Tom2000 Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 The engines in really good condition, very clean and shiney, other than repainting the engine i've not given it more thought really, need to finish last exams next week but after that it'll be a gradual project as it's a spare engine and gearbox. What could I do?
Tom2000 Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 The engine is painted in a horrible orange colour with a yellow sump but other than that it's got new b/s end bearings, trust washers, cam followers, cam shaft, duplex timing chain, camshaft & crankshaft sprockets, oil seals, head gasket, recored plugs, inlet/exhaust valves, valve springs, valve guides, pistons and a few other bits that I can't be bothered to type.. Overdrive came with a new clutch as well which is nice. :)Was alittle miffed that I booked near three weeks off to go on holiday and for one or other reasons its been cancelled, now i'm rather pleased that i've got the time off! - Overdrive and possible engine swap/engine bay clear out.
DaveKent Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 why swap the engine ; i thought you had an ivor searle fast road engine??
Tom2000 Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 xyv wrote:why swap the engine ; i thought you had an ivor searle fast road engine??Overdrive is going to go in, most likely keep the current engine as long as there is nothing wrong with it and just give it a paint and renew the mounts. Having it tested on monday for some bits but suspect its just tuning, had a few issues last week that alot of people have mentioned HGF but I doubt it. If it isn't, current engine stays, if not new engine in and sort current out. But mainly overdrive.
DaveKent Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 you can do a head gasket change in under two and a half hours, its no big deal you know; don't let the merchants of doom scare you off- it's a very simple engine!
