Whilst at the overdrive

I've got a few bits planned for the Spit, I've got an overdrive gearbox, fitted new clutch and given the box a nice paint job ;D, In the next month or two I intend on hopefully doing this over a long weekend and want to pull the engine out at the same time so that I can degrease, clean and paint the engine block as its covered in crap, possibly clean the sump out, fit new gaskets and replace the steering rack (I have a new one lying around).

Whilst i'm doing this I'd like to strip the wishbones, clean and paint.

Whilst I'm doing this lot, are there any other little bits that would be worth replacing? - bushes etc?

Poly bush the wishbone to chassis
plus any other like anti roll bar.
Fit a solid uj steering column to rack instead of the rubber jointed ones(that fail on MOTs)

Where can you get the solid UJ's? I was told you can't get them but can use alternatives like off a TR4/TR5? (unsure of which model specifically?)

I think Bill at Rarebits does them. Others probably do (such as Canleys). I would ring up and ask. In answer to your previous question I would:

Remove suspension components,
Clean and paint (possibly powder coat),
Polybush wishbones,
Check wear on trunnions/vertical links and replace where necessary,
Generally titivate, clean and paint where/whilst you have easy access,
I would definitely clean and paint the bulkhead near the gearbox (although you have had a respray recently so this may not apply)

Just get rid of any surface rust, lubricate joints.......
