Davemate Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 i tried to get my "j type " working today i wired it all up,it clicked a couple of times then nothing i have a feed and the earth seems ok so i am thinking its a "dodgy soleniod".the grearbox inhibitor lets the power through when 3rd 4th and netural is selected,if 1st or 2nd then no power ---so thats sort of working !!!!!if i hold the end of the soleniod i can move it slighty(a sort of side to side woble i presume thats not goodso where is the best place to get a new one from chaps
Clive Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 umm, not a relay, but the solenoid. So very unlikely to be in a scrappies. Unless they happed to have a car fitted with a j type OD.Just to double check, it should click, clear but soft sound if that makes sense.have a look, make sure the earth is attached. If you need to remove the solenoid, you need a thin 1" spanner. Mine was stolen (with all my spanners) last year :o
Davemate Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 After posting the above i had to go out and get the kebabs for teaWhen the button is slid forwards you can feel the overdrive trying for a split second to engage, you feel the serge a bit but it then disengages somethings amiss ! I will have another go tomorrow
