cnicholson Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 I have just taken my gt6 for a quick spin, and the overdrive has started to spin up under load, I only fitted the gearbox last week, and I did disturb the solenoid assy, is this a simple case of adjustment or lack of oil? or something more sinister, I have a spare working overdrive so I am tempted to just change it? (he says like its a walk in the park)
rotoflex Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Lack of oil can cause that.Top it up, & if the problem persists, look at the troubleshooting guide for the D-type overdrive on the Canley Classics website.
Pete Lewis Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 take off the o/s side cover in front of the solenoid, energise the solenoid, look at the lever there is a 3/16" dia hole in it, use a drill as a alignment tool and it should pass thro the hole and locate in a similar hole in the main case behind the lever.if its wrong its a simple two spanners on the nut and operating rod.also remove the n/s side plate remove the filter check the gauze for debris ,it is surrounded by 3 plastic magnetic rings to attract metal wear if you have a ammeter you can check the solenoid is pulling in fully( once the rod length has been checked.)initial pull takes 10 amps , once engaged there is a switch in the end of the sol. that switches to a holding coil which only takes about 0.5ampsthats the simple checks worth doing before you rip it apart Pete
cnicholson Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Pulled the O/D of and replaced it with a spare one i had which i know works well, the slippy one was full of black sooty deposits as if the cutch had been burning, am i to assume its scrap? or keep for an exchange?
Clive Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Keep. Can be sorted, never chuck overdrives away :o
