Overdrive Switch - Column or Gearstick?

Mine is a 1971 Rotoflex MK3 and it is on the gear lever.
However just to muddy the waters a bit I have met someone with a 1973 GT6 Mk3 with a column mounted OD switch.
I guess it would be fairly easy to fit a column mounted switch if that is the way you want to go.

Hi Anthony, All Mk3 with O/D had gearlever switch. As tiggrr1 says you could have column mounted if you wanted but having driven both a Mk2 with column and my MK3 with gear lever I find the gear lever easier. Its bad enough having the indicator stalk on the right side without having another lever up there. I'd be constantly turning left and going into overdrive  ;)

Dependant on the type of coulmn and shroud
The rounded st/shroud will take the rounded o/d switch . The `square` late Spit type shroud may not

I believe the column switch is US spec like my TR6 which I left with column switch when I converted to RH drive.  Works finem and you get used to it.  My GT6 has gear lever switch which I think is better, but having the O/D is most important thing!

The GT6 Mk3's in the US if they came with overdrive had the gear lever switch.

My 1971-built/1972 model-year car came without overdrive, & when I added overdrive, I installed a column switch as a matter of preference.

My Stag had the gear stick type which I found to be easy to use, my GT6 has the same but I have never driven the car.

My Land Rover S2A and S3, both had over drive which had a lever sat on the gearbox tunnel :)

I've used both and prefer column - bit like modern paddle change - keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel at high(ish) speeds - which is when you use o/d.  Also is only a quick flick and done.  All down to personal preference.
