xebec Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hi,I am still dismantling my 1971 GT6 Mk3 Rotoflex with an aim to completely restore it and after my problem with the Manifold a couple of weeks ago (see my former thread) I have come up against another problem or that is what I think it is....I have got to the stage of removing the engine and gearbox (overdrive) and have consequently drained the oil from the main unit and I have read in the Haynes manual that the overdrive also needs to be drained. I have drained the overdrive unit and also removed the filter plate to also clean out the filter etc. I pulled the filter out complete with the magnets and found a spring clip behind it. The clip is shown in the attached pic. I have found this item on the overdrive diagram in the Haynes manual and also on the rimmer bros site. It looks like part number 513223 spring clip. This part fits on the overdrive mainshaft.I have no idea what the situation is with the overdrive as I have not driven the car at all so have no idea if it works or not. Is this a normal fault as it is listed on the rimmers site as separate and being in stock? Is this a DIY prospect or is it a specialist job? I do not want to try to fix it and find springs jumping out around my ears. Has anybody any experience with this problem that could advise me please. Any info gratefully received. Thanks & Regards, Ken Quote
RedRooster Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 A very brave job or a speacalist, i'm stupid so i did my own. Saying that i thought the gearbox was more tricky. Is this the ring your on about?RR Quote
xebec Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Is this the ring your on about?RRHi RR,Yes that is the one. I was not sure exactly where it was located on the mainshaft but after a few trawls on the net I found some info that points to this being in a grove on the mainshaft. Seeing your pic has confirmed it. Thanks very much. I assume it should be fitted but what it actually does I have'nt a clue. I assume that when someone put the overdrive onto the gearbox that the spring clip must have broke off. I hope it has not done any further damage. I think it is a case of removing the overdrive from the gearbox and fitting the clip and replacing the overdrive again. I hope so anyway as have no experience of this sort of problem before. Thanks again, Rgds, Ken Quote
