GarthT Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 The overdrive has worked faultlessly since I bought my Vitesse. But recently it hasn't been coming on straightaway when I flick the switch. It does kick in after a few miles, after which it works as it should, almost immediately.Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem, and how did you fix it. Is is a common fault and does this signify the overdrive is on the way out?I've had the dashboard out recently to refurb it, and have had a few problems getting certain gauges to work (the temp and fuel) even though they are connected up properly, so I was wondering if it had something to do with this.cheers
Doug Paterson Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Most likely just the oil needing topped up I think.
Pete Lewis Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 if its a d type you can set /check the solenoid throw by under the small side plate there is a lever ,in this is a 3/16" hole , you energise the sol. and use a drill to pass the hole and line up with similar hole in the case, adjusted by screwing the nut on the pull rod . as said check easy bits firstthe oil level in the gearbox EP90 GL4 spec oil there is only 1 gearbox level filler, drivers side halfway up the case at the front.does both units check the wiring to the relay and solenoid and the switches on the toip of the gearboxif you have a meter the solenoid pulls 10amps on initial pull then switches down to 0.5amp Pete
GarthT Posted August 6, 2010 Author Posted August 6, 2010 Thanks for the advice Pete and Doug,I'll check the oil first, then do the hole alignment thing, I was reading about that procedure in the Haynes manual. It's stopped misbehaving, even when cold, when it was doing it the most, but I think I'll still check stuff just to be sure. Thanks again chaps.
