d type overdrive

hi, would some please explain how i can bench test a d type solenoid so i ensure its ok before refitting thanks

Put 12V on it via an ammeter, check that it pulls in and that the pull in coil disconnects when it pulls in. There are two coils, one high current to pull it in and a low curent one to hold it. A microswitch cuts out the high current one when it is engaged.
