GarthT
Just putting the front running gear back together after a strip down, clean and paint but I have a query...Could someone confirm which way the felt seal sits. Canleys diagram seem to have it with the metal part against the upright and the felt bit facing outwards so it will contact the inner bearing. When I took it apart last week both sides were the other way round, with the felt bit facing inover and the metal bit against the inner bearing.cheers
herald948
The felt seal faces the upright ("away" from the hub/bearing).

Davemate
Don't forget to check the bearing every couple of days until the felt compresses The new felt on mine stuck out a bit compared to the old
herald948
Good advice (unless you luck into some NOS --proper thickness -- seals as I did several months back)!
Pete Lewis
what ever you do make sure you keep the 0.002-0.008" end float ,, or a seized bearing ans stuffed stub are easy to makethe advice on a recheck is good , many aftermarket felts and cups are just way off the correct size, many just cannot be fitted .the simple way to keep endfloat right is to light hand nip the castle nut and back of 1 -2 flats then fit new split pin there are two holes in the stub to effect some compromise between flats Pete
