Jonny-Jimbo
Hi all,I'm stripping a set of suspension with a view to refurbing it all and using it on my Vitesse when I take the diff out etc to check it all over.I've popped the hubs off and got everything apart. The last bit I've got to strip is the rear hub inner oil seal and roller bearing. Any ideas on how to remove it with basic tools? I've looked in the various workshop manuals etc I have and they only say to 'remove' it. Which is useful. carmadmike
Took mine to southern triumph near me and they rebuilt it for me.Is there not a specialist near you or a local garage with a hydraulic press that wouldseparate it and rebuild it with new bearings for you. Jonny-Jimbo
Mike,There are plenty of specialists around, but I was really hoping for a way of doing it myself, using basic tools.
sparky_spit
I did one a while back and once the hub is off there is no real issue. I just used a vice and various hand tools, hammer and a drift, to remove all the bits off the shaft. I then rebuilt onto a new shaft using a Haynes manual for reference on the dimensions to set the bearing and flinger. I don't remember any particular difficulty once the hub was off (which was difficult...)
Jonny-Jimbo
Hub was easy for me as I borrowed a taper braker. I've tried drifting the bearings out, using bearing pushers etc at uni, but to no avail. The shafts are still good and so were the bearings, so they're not seized in.
