Sienna PI
Hello!!! I'm about to change / renew my half shaft UJs and have a voucher for a well known company in Sleaford, Lincolnshire I'd like to use! On their website they list three different types of UJ :- i) Circlip type GUJ102 ii) Circlip type Heavy Duty OEM Quality GUJ102HD iii) Staked type GUJ102 Staked I also have a pair of NOS Unipart UJs (GUJ116). Would one be more preferable to use than another ( although i must admit the staked prices are a bit on the costly side)? Thanks!
RobPearce
I'm not familiar with the "staked" type - it doesn't sound a good idea to me. The heavy duty is probably the one to go for. If you are a low mileage, gentle driver, the cheap one will probably suffice. However, you have a PI...
Clive
I would buy the best quality available. That will mean the top grade GKN or Hardy Spicer. It may take some searching, but worth checking to make sure you are getting the best.
glang
I believe HD should mean they have beefier arms and more rollers than standard but it would be good to confirm this with the supplier before paying the extra....
Nick Jones
I'd take ii). The staked ones are not for DIY use as they are fitted without circlips using a hydraulic staking machine. There are various bush methods of dealing with them, which mostly involve getting them out without killing the housings so new ones can be installed with circlips. Sienna PI
Hi All, Thank you for your advice! I have chosen the Heavy Duty OEM Type on the basis that the car does not get used a lot these days and I have saved a little bit of money by using the voucher - I only hope that I don't regret Clive's advice but this will do for the time being! ( Unforunately my money is being consumed by having to have an old diff re built due to the fact that the £800.00 recon unit that has only travelled 6000 miles is leaking oil and whining. It was purchased I think with a 3000 mile, 3 month warranty but due to only really using the car for 1 x RBRR and 1 x 10 Countries run this has expired). GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!! Dave. Richard B
Staked ones were fitted to the Stag Halfshafts, so the assemblies do not have the circlip groove machined. HD sounds the best bet.
Guppy916
I used these FreeLander units https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-TVF100000P1 on my Mk3 GT6
