Dates now confirmed - Starting in Lille on Wednesday 6th Sept and finishing at Rolduc on Saturday 9th Sept - we've had to bring it forward a day due to Rolduc not being available on Sunday 10th Sept... Thanks to Theo for negotiating us in on the Saturday instead...

Entry will open with the November mag, limited to 60 cars, so don't hang about as it's filled within days the last 3 times... and remember, incomplete entries will not be accepted, so make sure your crews are confirmed... you have a month to sort it out!

Mine will be in the post as soon as I get the mag

I note from the other "counter" thread that there is to be no overnight driving.

As Ellis says though, we are all free to make it what we want so

If I have anything to do with it my team will not be doing a namby pamby, shilly shally, hoity toity overnight in a hotel the first night - we'll be doing the magical drive through the night

For those likely to be offended by the terms used here - it's just a throwback to 2003

Andie and I are thinking of the overnight ferry from Hull on Monday night, potter around Belgium on Tuesday, stay nr Ypres so we can do the Menin gate ceremony again. Then an early blast down to Lille on the Wednesday morning.
The plan of no night driving suits us - after last year we agreed we'd do that whether or not it was the "official" plan.

Not the attitude I expected from you Martin, I see it as a safety issue, and not one of how much of a test a drive is, I have done the 10CR on three occasions and found driving over 24 hours to be a dangerous one, RBRR included.

One which If I found someone having an accident due to lack of sleep in my job,  one which I would prosecute for in law.

I personally take part in the 10CR to enjoy the craic with fellow drivers, and a lot of my great 10CR memories are at hotels enjoying good food and beer with great company talking about the days driving. Singen Germany one meal I do look back in fondness off.

However I will wait to see what 10CR 2017 offers!

which ever way you decide to drive the event, I wish you safe driving.

It's entirely what should be expected from me Rob.

I respect your point of view including about the RBRR which is discussed again on a thread entitled "safeguarding the future of the RBRR" and which is judged to be safe.

I have taken part in 4 RBRR which have two overnight drives in succession.

As regards the 10CR I am proposing 1 overnight drive in 4 days or if you include getting there and back for me it will be 7 days so not excessive or unsafe in my opinion.

I will also be in a 3 man crew having driver changes every 2 hours with breaks - not one person driving continually for 36 hours!

The overnight driving on deserted roads is one of my favorite parts of the 10CR & I will miss that.

The stops* in the early hours for a few hours kip in our cars ensured that we all got some rest before the next day & a hotel or two overnight which allows for socializing was a good balance. Its not nearly as intensive as the RBRR & consequently the 10CR has been driven by a single driver.

We have to try something new, but I hope we revert to the original format in 2019 (Assuming the EU will still let us into their playground...)

*Except for 2015 in a floodlit very noisy car park!

to be honest I find the socialising the most dangerous part of the 10CR or perhaps better to say the morning after. When I see the amounts of beer that has been consumed the night before by the drivers of some of the vehicles I am surprised not more accidents have happened. I would prefer to drive on a deserted road at night than on the busy road after one of the social evenings.

I always love the first night driving, especially through the French lavender fields, with the top down 😎
Will see what sort of route we get and decide from that what we'll be doing
... and I do have to agree with Andy ... well sort of  (whistle)

I have never had an issue with socialising myself, and I always get the first shift the next morning when the co-driver is , how shall we say, fragile.

I am wiling to argue that the additional hotel stops actually make the event less safe. I will await the itinery to confirm my thoughts.

Good!
Dates suits my days off... keep them that way...
And now that Shaun is out of hibernation.... Please just re-submit our entry papers from last time. We have some unfinished business to settle.

Starting from Lille is also a good thing. Our home turf practically.
Anyone wanting a continental base for the start, more than welcome.
