Stephen Graham
Hi, I'm looking to bring back my Stag from Croatia where it's been for the last 10 years or so (don't ask) and have a flatbed organised. My question relates to taking it off the flatbed. I have 3-metre ramps and a flatbed height of approx. 1 metre meaning that the ramp angle is 20 degrees. Is this low enough to avoid scraping the front or back end? If not, what is the lowest angle I can risk?
Guppy916
winch it up onto the ramps then place a 4x2 timber under the rear of the ramps and with said trolly jack raise the rear a few inches then finish winching the car on, you only need to go high enough for the sills to clear the trailer, you might need to ratchet strap the timber in place
thescrapman
Doing some quick sums, I reckon you need 16cm clearance under front bumper on way up and 22cm clearance under sills with your 3m ramps going up to a 1m flat bed. But don't take my word for it if it turns out to be 17 and 23 :-)
Stephen Graham
Thanks for all the info - solution chosen is to drive the car from the flatbed onto a recovery vehicle that has a tilted bed - not there yet but will let you know the outcome
michael
Run the tow vehicle rear axle on to. A ramp, which will tilt the trailers,or disconnect the trailer and jack the front, simple ,regards Michael
