V6 Mark
Afternoon all After fitting a new cylinder head (and following Myr Haynes instructions) I cannot get the Spit to start. I am scratching my head as I have rechecked valve clearances, sparks and carb - is the valve setting order in Haynes correct? Nick Jones
Plug leads in wrong order would be favourite..... usually generates some popping and banging though. Wrong type of head gasket (non-recessed gasket on recessed block) has been a contender before as well....Does it even try? Does it sound like it has compression? Was it running before the head came off?Nick
V6 Mark
Humm it's the first time I have set upt the timing on the Spit and did it according to the Haynes manual, gap is set and I have a spark. Could I possibly be 180 degrees out on the timing ? As far as I am aware I set it when rotor arm pointing to 1 cylinder (at about 10 oclock when looking from passenger side of engine)
Deleted User
One of the manuals has it wrong ..could be the haynes one .easiest way to find out just move the leads round two places and try firing her up
Pete Lewis
if you have compression I would take out the spark plugs, stick thumb over no1 plug hole, turn engine slowly by hand till air is pushed past thumb, this is its compression stroke turn eng slowly to get the tdc marked aligned, take off dizzy cap look where rotor is pointingthis is where you want no1 lead then position the 1342 from that point.doesnt matter where they are providing the start point is right and the order follows onyou need 5 arms and 6 hands to do this without cursing Pete
